SubMastery
Guided Training for Substitute Teacher Effectiveness
You may be anxious about your ability to maintain order and instructional consistency
in the classroom in the absence of the permanent teacher. Training is key to relieving
this anxiety because it provides you with the skills necessary for positive teaching
experiences.
SubMastery is a comprehensive training tool created just for you. It consists of
four basic components:
Make the most of this tool by registering, taking the SubStrength Finder, completing
the training, and regularly monitoring your performance using the SubEvaluation.
The Registration component of SubMastery asks guided
questions detailing your background, education, skills, and interests. Once registered,
you receive monthly eNewsletters, access to educational links, the SubStrength Finder,
and more.
The questions included in the SubStrength Finder
assist you in identifying your strengths and weaknesses prior to taking charge of
a classroom. You receive feedback about where improvement is needed, and suggestions
on what professional development areas you should address. The SubStrength Finder
is a critical link in your customized professional development plan!
Once you have completed the SubStrength Finder and the district application process,
you are encouraged to complete the Training and Assessment component of SubMastery.
This paid-access component is comprised of several training resources:
This component is intended to supplement training provided by the district. The
SubInstructor Kit is the basic-level training package. You have the option of adding
on the Classroom Management CD for a minimal cost. After reviewing the handbook
and completing the self-paced SubInstructor training, you may take the online SubAssessment
a maximum of four times. When you are satisfied with your score, you may print a
SubDiploma
to verify completion of training. The skills mastered during the training process
enable you to be confident as you enter the classroom, resulting in a successful
day of learning for your students. You can also see how you rank among other substitutes,
by going to SubAssessment
Rank.
You are encouraged to take the SubEvaluation a minimum
of once a month. This self-evaluation tool measures your daily practices to improve
performance in the classroom. This component of the SubMastery program points out
individual strengths and weaknesses, and directs you to the appropriate resources
to become proficient in the areas identified as weaknesses.
